June 1, 2015 (Pt. 1) – NEPAL UPDATE
MCA Los Angeles has been in contact with Fr. Joe Thaler of Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. At the moment Fr. Joe is in Nepal providing aid and relief with other local groups to those affected by the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25, 2015 followed by a 7.3 magnitude earthquake just two weeks after. He is providing our office with updates every few days of the current situation. Here are some of his words as well as photos:
June 1, 2015 (PART 1): SOMETIMES THE SUPPLIES ONLY ARRIVE IN THE EVENING BUT BY MORNING THEY ARE MOVING ALONG TO THE VILLAGES
Actually moving supplies to a needed village can be a rather long and sometimes complicated matter. Securing supplies in Kathmandu is not always so easy. Often it may take an entire day to load up a truck with rice and other food items or other necessary supplies because the place you went to yesterday or even the day before or last week no longer has supplies.
So a good part of the day can be spent in looking around for needed supplies and then the truck has to be rented and then the supplies loaded and then sent on their way to a village. So often it is late into the morning or early afternoon by the time the truck is ready to more. If lucky you may reach the village by the late evening if not, then you may just have to wait till the next day. But no matter what time the truck arrives at any given destination the folks are waiting to eagerly unload and head off to their villages with the much needed supplies.
Thanks to all for supplying so many needed items at this time…
