May 25, 2015 – NEPAL UPDATE
MCA Los Angeles has been in contact with Fr. Joe Thaler of Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. At the moment Fr. Joe is in Nepal providing aid and relief with other local groups to those affected by the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25, 2015 followed by a 7.3 magnitude earthquake just two weeks after. He is providing our office with updates every few days of the current situation. Here are some of his words as well as photos:
May 25, 2015: Distribution of Galvanized Sheet to Earthquake Victims Kuel & Ichok VDC, Sindhupalchok
Well, all we can do is take a day, or now maybe two, at a time. Over the last few days relief materials, (rice, Salt, Pulses, Oil, Bucket etc), depending on the needs expressed, were distributed in Kuel & Ichok VDC Sindhupalchok District with the support of Maryknoll. Now the major request is for Jasta (galvanized tin sheets) for shelter. So a delivery of Jasta, nails, wire and hammers were distributed to 105 households out of 1423 households of Ichok VDC and 32 household out of 1048 household of Kule VDC, Sindhupalchok District in first phase along with 1100 meter of water pipe to provide120 households of Ichok-8 and Kuel-1 access to drinking water. The earthquakes and landslides in this area damaged the water supply system.
As we are out and about in the villages we meet many amazing people so just wanted to introduce you to three of them in the photos, Meena, Dil Bahadur and Maya all working with us on the local level and “making it happen.”
We are now in the process of gathering supplies for another 200 plus households. Let’s keep the supplies moving…thanks so much…Blessings, Joe
