May 28, 2015 – NEPAL UPDATE
MCA Los Angeles has been in contact with Fr. Joe Thaler of Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. At the moment Fr. Joe is in Nepal providing aid and relief with other local groups to those affected by the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25, 2015 followed by a 7.3 magnitude earthquake just two weeks after. He is providing our office with updates every few days of the current situation. Here are some of his words as well as photos:
May 28, 2015: In Foksintar, Kavre, Nepal—Meeting wonderful people along the way…
Photos taken in the village of Foksintar, Kavre District. I have just shown three houses but many of the houses in this village are either totally destroyed or heavily damaged.
As you look at the photos take a notice of Bijay. In the group photo he is the one on the extreme right next to the man in the blue shirt. Bijay has been known to Maryknoll for a few years now as he has been our major driver in Kavre on other projects that we are involved in. In fact a few months ago I posted a video of a vehicle heading to the village sliding in the mud on the way to one of the Kavre villages. Bijay was the driver of that vehicle. He is a good and honest and very hard working man and a great organizer for his village.
Bijay came to me with a list that identified people in his village who needed assistance and the type of assistance required. So as you can see all is done in a very orderly manner in his village. Our main distributor of goods in the village is Maya, who is standing below the Maryknoll sign. The people are wonderful and in spite of having lost so much still have the smiles and warm hospitality that has distinguished Nepal for generations.
Blessings on all… Joe
