How Long is the Exposure Trip? There are two options for participation in the Crossing Borders Program. Your program coordinator can chose which program is right for your group: |
| The longer programs provide an opportunity for a day or two helping at an orphanage, the Migrant Center (La Casa del Migrante), or another local organization. What Will be Included in a Typical Visit? |
| Where Do We Stay? Participants stay on the third floor of the Scalabrini Migrant Center in Tijuana. There are several dormitory rooms with bunk beds and bathrooms for men and women. Blankets and sheets are provided. How Much Does it Cost? The program costs $10 per day / per person. This includes all programming, lodging and supper at the Migrant Center. Travel to the border and personal expenses are not included. Participants are responsible for buying their noontime lunches. Typically the group stops at a taco stand while visiting sites. Participants can prepare their own breakfasts in the small kitchen room on the third floor of the Migrant Center. How Do We Get to Tijuana? Travel to the border can be by private van or car, or by train to San Diego. Participants can travel together on Amtrak from Los Angeles to San Diego and then take the convenient trolley to the border station. At the border station, our trip leaders who work at the Scalabrini Migrant Center will meet you. Information for the train can be found at www.amtrak.com. Information for the trolly can be found at www.sdcommute.com. How Do We Set Up a Trip? If you would like to plan a future trip to Tijuana for your parish youth or adult group or high school students, please contact David Braun at the Mission Office, (213) 637-7564, or e-mail: missionoffice@la-archdiocese.org To set up the program, we will need to know when you would like to visit, what you would like to include in the program, and how many you expect to participate. We have room for 15 - 20 participants. |
