Mission Office | Archdiocese of Los Angeles

World Mission Sunday, which celebrated its 77th anniversary in 2003, affords the entire Church a focused opportunity to reflect on the mission "adgents" - to those who have not heard the Gospel, and to respond to Christ's call to be missionary. On that day, all parishes in every diocese of the world celebrated together our common vocation to preach and proclaim Christ throughout the world.

This celebration is not just a "collection day" on which we solicit support for missionaries throughout the world. It represents an attitude of responsibility for all of us to be missionaries through our prayers, our good works and financial contributions. The response of Catholics on World Mission Sunday maintains the lifeblood of the Church in 1,000 mission dioceses throughout the developing world.
