The Pontifical Mission Societies in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles accepts requests from Mission Dioceses, Religious Orders, and Lay Organizations working in the missions to preach at a parish for the purpose of making an appeal for financial support. This annual appeal is one that helps unite the Archdiocese of Los Angeles with the Universal Church and to emanate mission awareness among the people of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The generous response, which is traditional amongst the people of Los Angeles, is a reflection of the ongoing awareness and concern for the people of the world.
Taking the opportunity to share in this mutually beneficial cooperative generates a zeal for the missions among this Archdiocese. These presentations inform the parishioners about the work in the missions and provide an opportunity for them to respond and support this important work.
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has affected the Mission Cooperative Plan’s traditional way of interacting with the invited mission groups in our parishes. Social distancing and mandates have led us to reform our way of supporting these missionaries. This change has led us to share more about the missions in a virtual way so that we may continue to support them. During these uncertain times, we have all been affected by the challenges and frightening effects of this pandemic, but let us think of the mission lands where before they were suffering, and now they suffer even more. We encourage you to read and hear the stories on the next pages about the enormous challenges the mission groups are facing during these extraordinary times. They need your prayers and financial support as they continue to be the light and hope for the vulnerable communities throughout the world.
