Navjyothi Province of our Sacred Heart Congregation today is blessed with 203 members of whom 10 are newly professed. We have 26 canonical houses, where sisters help in parish ministries, faith formation, home missions, care of the sick, and providing psychological and spiritual care for those who are in need.

NOVICES & SISTERS

Our Sisters work in twelve dioceses. Besides Kerala, India we also work in Rundu-Namibia, Jimma Bonga-Ethiopia and Mainz and Speyer-Germany. We work in close collaboration and mutual assistance with the departments of Evangelization, Education, Charitable Activities, and the social work in the dioceses we serve.

The MCP mission appeal funds are primarily used for the children with disabilities under our care. Our institutions are for children with special needs; 15 children with cerebral palsy – completely bedridden with profound mental disability and 125 children mentally challenged.  We have two children’s homes (Balbhavans) with 60 children each for children from broken and dysfunctional families. The children from children’s homes attend nearby schools, and receive special tuition and additional care for their extracurricular activities. Sisters take care of their temporal needs, food, and accommodation and provide them with everything needed for school like copybooks, textbooks, school bags, uniforms, umbrellas, etc., and meet their school transportation expenses.

BALBHAVANS

We have looked after 35 HIV-positive children with boarding and homeschooling for the past 13 years. Among these 35 children, 10 of them graduated, are rehabilitated and are helped with a job to maintain their daily expenses. So far, we have been able to help five couples, both HIV-positive, to get married among themselves. It’s very promising to know that with the medical help, and with proper guidance, they were able to have their children born without HIV. One of the main factors is the continuous care they received since childhood from the Sacred Heart sisters. Our sisters serve these with much dedication, patience, and perseverance.

HIV-POSITIVE CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Our action plans always include the option for the poor, women and family empowerment programs, and simplicity of life. Along with our activities to build a more vibrant community life we focus on building houses for the people who are less privileged. Last year we were able to build two low-cost houses for the needy and were able to do partial help to complete five other houses.

SPECIAL NEEDS & LESS PRIVILEGED COMMUNITY

Our apostolic journey, as is the case always, is confronted with new opportunities as well as challenges. We work in a geographical area that is environmentally sensitive to heavy rains, landslides, and mudslides. This brings its own challenges for us to initiate and maintain projects, especially, building structures. The policies of our Indian Government also create threatening situations for us to continue our apostolic activities. Our foreign missions bring their unique challenges of working with unfamiliar cultures and diocesan structures in Germany, Namibia, and Ethiopia.

Though we don’t have a lot of assets, the continuous help we receive from MCP by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is really a relief and a huge hope. We are grateful to you who help us with our special missions, especially for the children with disabilities. Your help will always bring a smile to our children. It will bring food to a family and a roof over the struggling.

I implore the blessings of the Lord through the intercession of our Blessed Mother and the special intercession of our beloved founder the venerable Father Mathew Kadalikkattil upon you and your ministries. You are all in our prayers.
