The Mission Appeal is to assist the St. Paul Catholic Church Community of Ezioka-Isuofia in their church-building effort. St. Paul Catholic Community is in the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia located in the South Eastern part of Nigeria. The church building will save the Catholic community from the problem of celebrating Sunday Masses and other liturgical celebrations in a public town hall.

The inhabitants of the area are rural dwellers, mostly farmers. They plant their crops during the rainy season. The yields from their farms are used mostly to feed their families. They do not have large areas of land therefore little or nothing can be sold to get money to provide for their other needs.

Sometimes also there is the menace of the Muslim herdsmen also known as the Fulani herdsmen that destroy farm lands in some parts of the area. In Nigeria, Christians and Muslims live side by side. Their co-existence has not been cordial or peaceful over the years. Christians in Nigeria are being persecuted by the Muslims, especially in the northern part of the country. The Boko Haram group, the Fulani Cattle herdsmen are often behind these persecutions.

The Community is also faced with challenges that emanate from Violence by armed groups and Kidnappers.  There is also poverty in the land because of the corruption and mismanagement of money from crude oil and national resources by the political elite in Nigeria. These Political Leaders who have been Muslims over the years have not been able to find solutions to the incessant persecution, violence, and poverty in the country.

St. Paul Catholic Community Ezioka -Isuofia are people of great faith in the Catholic church. Their faith in God has helped them all these years to keep forging ahead in spite of the obstacles and challenges facing them.

Our hope and prayer is that the political leaders do the needful to improve the lives of the people. Leaders should work hard to control and if possible eliminate the menace of criminals that terrorize the people.

Through our baptism and faith in Jesus, we all have been called to be missionaries. Some participate in Mission works by living and working in Mission lands while others participate in Mission activities through their donations and prayers. May the Almighty God bless and reward all of you for your support and generosity.
