The Diocese of San Jose, Nueva Ecija in the Philippines was created on February 16, 1984, and inaugurated on July 14, 1984. Present Ordinary is Most Reverend Roberto Mallari, DD. It comprises the City of San Jose, the Science City of Munoz & 12 other municipalities in the Northern Province of Nueva Ecija in Central Luzon. The 21 Parishes are still mission territories composed mostly of hard-working farmers – who produce rice, onions, garlic & vegetables. The far flung areas in the mountains and villages are settled by diverse Native Indigenous Tribes. There are 40 Diocesan Priests and 10 Religious Clergy administering the 21 Parish Communities & 3 Mission Stations. There are also 25 religious sisters from 7 different Religious Congregations.

“Bahay Pari” – House for Elderly, Retired & Sickly Priests. 6 Priests were residents but 3 are deceased due to COVID-19, heart attack & emphysema (lungs). Presently 3 full-time retired clergy with a total of 7 rooms located in the middle of ricefields, a quiet location far from noise & highway traffic. Fr. Manny says, “My future place of retirement!” 

CBHP (Community Based Health Program) provides medical assistance (medicines, nutrition, etc.) to families in poor depressed villages.

“Diocesan Catechetical Program” prepares children and teenagers for the reception of the Sacraments with over 150 Catechists.

“HOPE” – House of Prayer & Evangelization” – This is a rehabilitation facility for drug addicts, where a stay can last from 3 – 6 months. Patients are provided & given a second chance of recovery & better future.

TDK (“Tahanan ng Damayang Kristiyano”) houses elderly men & women abandoned by their own families.

“Tahanan ng Awa” (House of Mercy)- where orphans and abandoned teens and neglected children are taken care.

“Outreach to Indigenous & Tribal communities” – Northern Nueva Ecija is surrounded by mountains inhabited by Native Tribes, i.e. Igorots, Ifugaos, etc. Led by Local Priests, Sisters & lay volunteers bringing medicines & basic supplies like rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar & canned goods like sardines. Tribal natives mostly eat root crops & corn.

 

On the weekend of July 27 & 28, 2024 – Father Manny Guico will conduct Mission Appeals at Saint Philomena in Carson, California.
